Don’t Do a Static HTML Site!

by Matthew Wygant on July 10, 2009

The main problem with a regular HTML web site is that it’s difficult to make changes. Even if you’re very fluent with HTML, minor site updates can be a fairly involved process. And you’ll have to schedule more involved updates, such as those requiring new pages, new sections, and new navigation buttons, or sidebar element revisions, days or weeks in advance. Even adding a simple response form can be a pain. As a result, your static site will be consistently out-of-date, and you’ll eventually just stop thinking about creative and productive ways to use your web site because the implementation is so slow and costly.

A site built and maintained using a CMS (content management system) allows easy and immediate control over your web site content, with WYSIWYG page editing, and mouse-click addition of new pages, discussion forums, weblogs, image galleries, password-protected sections, and more.

If you aren’t using a CMS yet, or you don’t like the one you have, I recommend WordPress.
